Walthamstow and Walthamstow Mylar
The popularity of handcrafted techniques prompted this adaptation of “comb marbling,” historically seen in book endpapers. Dating back to the 12th century, this art form became a common feature of bookbinding in France and the Netherlands in the 1600’s.
Originally achieved by “raking” paints into swirled patterns with a marbling comb and then transferring them onto paper, the effect has been translated to the rotogravure process for this London Chic wallcovering. Each colorway combines subtle neutral tones with hints of other colors, and three of the colorways integrate streaks of Mylar, adding a lustrous allure.
