Adapted from a classic trellis wallpaper, this quintessential pattern can be traced back to the 12^th century. Decorative screens based on Islamic geometric designs were originally used to shade interiors from harsh sun rays. In the 1860’s, British designer William Morris, well known for his Arts and Crafts-style wallpaper designs, incorporated a trellis into the first wallpaper he created for the company he founded.
