RAMPART and RAMPART Resolve

RAMPART® flexible wall protection performs as well as rigid sheet goods and offers superior stain resistance. Engineered to provide abrasion and impact resistance in heavy traffic interiors, RAMPART is ideal for hospitals, hotels, workplaces, and restaurants. In fact, RAMPART meets the standard for NSF/ANSI 51 for use in Foodservice interiors.

RAMPART Resolve® is a clean chemistry alternative to RAMPART, which provides the same protection, but without polyvinyl-chloride (PVC).

Both RAMPART and RAMPART Resolve:

  • enhance interiors with aesthetically pleasing patterns, textures, and colors;
  • Performance Test Results prove that they perform as well as institutional-looking rigid sheet goods on Surface Abrasion, Surface Indentation, and Hard Body Impact tests;
  • are finished with Surcoat™, a stain- and abrasion-resistant topcoat that provides an easy-to-clean surface (see below for more about cleaning and disinfecting);
  • are less expensive—40% on average less for product and installation—than rigid sheet goods;
  • can be railroaded for expanses of up to 81 feet long with no seams;
  • do not require vertical trim pieces;
  • wrap corners easily; and,
  • are the only wall protection products that can be perforated.

Cleaning and Disinfecting RAMPART

RAMPART and RAMPART Resolve have been third-party tested for their reaction to a variety of chemical agents as per the industry standard, ASTM D543. Results verify that there was no damaging effect when a range of cleaners and disinfectants were used on RAMPART, including diluted bleach and several hospital-grade quaternary compounds that meet the EPA List N criteria for use against Covid-19.

Digital RAMPART

RAMPART can be digitally printed with the imagery of your choice. In addition to the growing number of standard patterns, colors, and textures, WG Customs Lab can reproduce your photographs, illustrations, or artwork on two RAMPART substrates. The impact- and abrasion- resistant wall protection is available in Tabby Emboss (CDP 510), a realistic canvas texture, and the subtler Lay Emboss (CDP 511), with the refined look of silk.

In addition to providing your own artwork, the Wolf-Gordon Curated Collection offers distinctive imagery created by a select group of artists that you can modify to your requirements.

RAMPART Stronghold Wall Liner

For projects that require RAMPART wall protection to be installed on a substrate other than new drywall, RAMPART Stronghold® is the solution. This easy to install wall liner, available in two formulations, provides a smooth, plaster-like veneer over a variety of irregular surfaces. Following are frequently-asked questions about RAMPART Stronghold, which can also be downloaded.

What are the differences between the two Stronghold Wall Liners?

RSL 609 is jute scrim encapsulated with two layers of gypsum cement. It is recommended for use on non-planar surfaces such as concrete block (CMU), ceramic tile, brick, plaster, damaged drywall, or other heavily textured surfaces

RSL 602 is polyester scrim encapsulated with two layers of gypsum cement. It can be used to cover smooth, planar surfaces such as Acrovyn® and Inpro®, marble, granite, laminate, narrow groove paneling, metal, glass, chalkboard/whiteboard, or other smooth, non-porous surfaces. RSL 602 can also be used over newly installed drywall to avoid the cost of skim coating, in most cases.

How does RAMPART Stronghold work?

Once a waterbased adhesive is applied to the wall liner, the water hardens the material, creating a surface similar to a hard plaster veneer. It can be used to hide cracks, joints, pores, patches, and other surface irregularities.

Must walls be prepared with a primer before applying Stronghold?

In most cases, a primer is not needed to adhere Stronghold over CMU, tile, plywood, or Acrovyn. However, it is important to have a small mock-up done first. For smooth surfaces such as glass, metal, and marble, the surface should be cleaned and then primed. If installing over a metal surface, a rust-inhibiting primer should be used. The surface must be dried for a minimum of 4 hours—preferably overnight.

What type of disruption might an installation cause?

Since the installation is dustless, non-toxic, and virtually odorless, it will cause minimal disruption to a facility.

How is Stronghold installed?

When applying to an irregular surface, a uniform coat of Roman PRO-555 Extreme Tack Adhesive should be applied to the back of the wall liner. Each sheet should be folded and allowed 5–10 minutes booking time for the adhesive to tack. Stronghold should be overlapped and double-cut when installing. Seams should be flattened by exerting light pressure with a seam roller.

How should corners be handled?

It is highly recommended to butt seam at both inside and outside corners to achieve the best results.

Are there any additional steps that should be followed to mitigate telegraphing over highly irregular surfaces?
Once Stronghold has been installed it should dry overnight (minimum of 12 hours), and then a visual inspection should be conducted. It is imperative that Stronghold is at the proper level to accept whatever the final finish will be—wall protection, wallcovering, or paint. A light coat of Durabond® or Quick Set may be required in recessed areas to ensure that the substrate is flush prior to installing the final finish.

What happens to Stronghold if RAMPART needs to be removed from the wall?

RAMPART can be stripped from the Stronghold wall liner and new RAMPART wall protection (or other wallcovering) can be applied. Stronghold can also be painted once the existing material has been stripped, however, it will require a bit more preparation to achieve a suitable paintable surface.

Can Stronghold be used with other products such as Type II wallcovering, wood veneer, or paint?
WG does not recommend the use of Stronghold with any other products aside from RAMPART® and RAMPART® Resolve. If there are circumstances that require a product other than our wall protection, please discuss them with your account executive.
