In addition to our certified sustainable products, Wolf-Gordon recognizes the importance of reducing the environmental impact of other products we distribute.

California AB-2998

Signed into law in 2018, the California Act AB 2998 prohibits the sale of upholstered furniture, use of custom upholstery, and repair of upholstery that contains flame-retardant chemicals in levels greater than 1,000 parts per million. Additionally, the act prohibits the sale of mattresses and juvenile products that contain such levels of flame retardants.

Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)

The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is an organization that promotes sustainable forest management by certifying forest managers and businesses that rely on the extraction of resources from forests for their products. The FSC’s guiding belief is that protecting forests is fundamental to tackling global climate, labor, and biodiversity challenges. FSC certification requires a demonstrable commitment to standards that support the following goals:

  • Zero deforestation;
  • The safeguarding of ancient and endangered forests;
  • Ensuring fair wages and work environments;
  • Preserving biodiversity;
  • Upholding community rights, including the rights of indigenous peoples.

For more information, see the FSC website.

Healthier Hospitals/Practice Greenhealth

Healthier Hospitals (HH) was a campaign created to encourage healthcare organizations across the country to source more sustainable products and challenge them to address the health and environmental impacts of their sector. The seven challenges that were established helped get sustainability efforts for thousands of hospitals and health systems off the ground. The “Safer Chemicals” challenge included a Healthier Interior goal for seating and upholstery fabrics.

The HH framework and resources have now been migrated into Practice Greenhealth's vast inventory of tools. Products that meet the HH goals avoid the use of intentionally added flame retardants, antimicrobial agents, formaldehyde, perfluorinated compounds, and PVC, without sacrificing performance or durability.
